Can ChatGPT see your website?
We check the public signals AI assistants use to read websites: access for crawlers, files for assistants, structured data and the main elements of the homepage. Whether an assistant cites you also depends on what the website says and who mentions it.
Free, no registration required. Your data stays in your browser.
More and more customers ask ChatGPT or Perplexity "which company does..." instead of searching Google. An assistant can recommend you only if its bots can access your website and find clear facts there: who you are, what you do, who you do it for and your prices. The check reads robots.txt, llms.txt, sitemap.xml and your website's homepage, then gives you a score of up to 100 with specific fixes.
We built this check because we use it ourselves too: saitami.bg has been receiving enquiries from ChatGPT and Perplexity since the website was opened to their bots and llms.txt was added. Nothing you enter is stored.
- A high score means that assistants can read and understand your website. Whether they recommend you also depends on what your website says and who else mentions you online: reviews, directories and media.
- We check only the homepage. If it is in English or is an empty "splash" screen, the score will be low, regardless of the other pages.
- Websites behind Cloudflare's "bot protection" sometimes block our check too. In that case, you will see an error when opening the website, which is also a signal to AI bots.
Questions and answers
ChatGPT: GPTBot (training), OAI-SearchBot (search in ChatGPT) and ChatGPT-User (when a user opens a link). Claude: ClaudeBot and Claude-SearchBot. Perplexity: PerplexityBot. Gemini: Google-Extended, and Googlebot for search. Copilot and ChatGPT search through the Bing index, so Bingbot is important too.
A text file at /llms.txt where you explain in simple terms what the company is, what it does, its prices and where the main pages are. Assistants read it as a summary of the website. The example for saitami.bg is at saitami.bg/llms.txt.
JSON-LD based on schema.org tells the machine the company name, phone number, address, services and prices, without having to guess from the text. Assistants and Google use it to display the facts accurately.
Add the line User-agent: GPTBot to robots.txt, followed by Allow: /. If you have a general User-agent: * block with Disallow: /, it stops all bots, including AI bots. The same applies to OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended.
Access is a requirement, not a guarantee. Assistants recommend companies they find in several places: on the website, in directories and rankings, in reviews and in articles. This is the work we call GEO (generative engine optimization), which we offer as a service.
Yes. Fixing robots.txt, llms.txt and structured data takes a few hours for a website we maintain. For a website maintained by someone else, we provide a list of the exact changes or make them with access provided by you.
