Challenge

MEAN WELL's official distributor for Bulgaria was selling thousands of power supplies through a site where the entire catalogue was one page with no parameter search. The buyer knew what they needed (24 V, 240 W, water protection, dimming), but could not reach the right model without calling. And the old site had 15 years of Google rankings that could not be lost.

Solution

A custom catalogue with 61 technical parameters extracted from the manufacturer's specifications, typo-tolerant search, filters, a configurator and comparison. Price levels for business customers, quote requests without registration and quick requests by list. Plus an SEO migration in which every old page and file remains available at its original URL.

From model to quote request in seconds

Search for HLG-240H, filter for 24 V and water protection, the product page with price and availability, then the configurator: constant current, mains power, waterproof, with dimming. The number of suitable models drops from 3 726 to a few hundred while the customer is still making selections. This recording is from the live site, with no screen mock-ups.

Catalog, filters and comparison

The data comes from the manufacturer

MEAN WELL publishes a PDF specification for every series, but the tables use at least four different layouts. We wrote a program that reads them, recognises the units of measurement (350 mA never becomes 350 A), and assigns the values shared by a series to every model in it. Where the specification is ambiguous, the field is left blank: in a power supply catalogue, a wrong value is worse than a missing one. The data is then cross-checked against the client's tables and imported into the catalogue.

Looking for a replacement?

When the old power supply has been discontinued or its label has worn off, the customer uploads a photo and describes what it powers. The OMEGA LIGHT team responds with an equivalent from the catalog, and the inquiry includes everything needed from the start.

On mobile

Electricians often search on site, so the catalogue, filters and configurator work on mobile too.

SEO migration with no lost URLs

The old website had 15 years of Google rankings. The new one inherits them.

Every old page

The old site's pages and its six language versions redirect with 301 redirects to their new URLs, while the two old domains point to meanwell.bg.

1 139 old files

Specifications, certificates and catalogues are available at the same URLs as before, even when the link uses different upper- and lower-case letters.

1 267 URLs checked

Before launch, every old URL known to Google was opened through the new website. Lost: zero.

Search engines understood it immediately

A sitemap, structured data for every model, Google Search Console, and more than 5 000 URLs submitted to Bing and Yandex on launch day.

Under the hood

Administration for thousands of models

The administration manages each model's tree position, parameters, prices, images and visibility, while changes are exchanged with tables in both directions.

Search follows the changes

Every edit in the administration reaches the search engine automatically within a few seconds, with no manual reindexing.

Price levels

Base price, wholesale price, time-limited promotions, customer groups and individual prices. The business customer sees their price without seeing how it was calculated.

Security

Admin login with an email code, roles, form protection, HTTPS and daily backups.

Seven retail locations

The contact page shows all of the company's locations with their addresses, phone numbers, opening hours and a map, while the phone numbers of the four largest locations appear in the top bar on every page. Website enquiries arrive by email to the team.

About the project

OMEGA LIGHT is MEAN WELL's official importer and distributor for Bulgaria, with retail locations in Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas, Stara Zagora and Blagoevgrad. MEAN WELL makes power supplies: LED drivers, DIN-rail power supplies, adapters, chargers, DC-DC converters and inverters. Its catalogue contains thousands of models that differ in power, voltage, current, protection and enclosure, and the buyer - usually an engineer or electrician - searches precisely by these figures.

The old site was a single static 1.4 MB file with the entire catalogue on one page and no parameter search. Customers had known it for 15 years, so the new site preserves its look: the dark red bar and MEAN WELL's red accent, but everything underneath is new.

The catalogue was built from scratch and is simultaneously a website, B2B store and product data system. Over 3 700 models are organised into a tree of groups, categories, series and model groups, with 61 technical parameters, each with its own type and unit of measurement. The parameters were not entered by hand: they were extracted from the manufacturer's specifications in PDF format, across four different table layouts, then supplemented and checked against the customer's tables.

Search accepts the model as people actually type it: partially, without hyphens or with letters in the wrong order. Filters narrow the results by voltage, power, class, PFC, water protection and availability, with the number of remaining models shown next to each value. The configurator asks six questions on one page, and the number of suitable models changes with every selection. Comparison places up to four models side by side and highlights the differences.

Prices are in euro, with a base price and wholesale price on every product page. Business customers see their price levels and individual prices without being shown how they were calculated. A quote request requires no registration, while the quick request accepts a list of models and quantities pasted directly from a table.

The migration preserves the searches the company had built up over the years: every old page and all six language versions of the old site redirect to the new URLs, while 1 139 old files (specifications, certificates and catalogues) remain available at the same URLs as before. Before launch, we checked 1 267 old URLs one by one: not a single one was lost.

The site has been live at meanwell.bg since 8 October 2026. The first two stages were completed weeks ahead of the deadlines in the contract.
